Franz Fischnaller

Franz Fischnaller è nato a Bolzano. Dopo essersi diplomato in arte in questa città si è diplomato a Stoccarda presso l'Academy of Graphic and Fine Arts e a New York in Graphic Art in Fashion Techniques.

Nel '95 ha fondato a Milano F.A.B.R.I.CATORS, un gruppo interdisciplinare che cerca l'integrazione di tecnologia, comunicazione, architettura, arte e design e affronta le questioni dell'interfaccia uomo-macchina. Ha lavorato a lungo in ambito tecnologico (grafica 2D e 3D, multimedia, realtà virtuale, Internet), e realizza i propri lavori in collaborazione con varie istituzioni, tra cui l'Electronic Visualization Lab (EVL) dell'Università dell'Illinois (Chicago), le Università di Pisa e di Milano e il Medienmuseum del ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie) di Karlsruhe.

I suoi lavori sono stati mostrati in varie manifestazioni in tutto il mondo, tra cui a Documenta IX (Kassel, '92), al Medienmuseum (Karlsruhe, '94), al Media Park (Colonia, '94), all'Ontario Science Centre (Toronto, '94-95), al Siggraph (Los Angeles, '95), a Imagina (Montecarlo, '95), ad Ars Electronica (Linz, '95), al Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnica "Leonardo da Vinci" (Milano, '96), all'ISEA, a Mediartech (Firenze, '96), Ars Electronica (Linz, '99).

Followed art and design studies in Germany, Italy and USA. He works in the art and design fields and parallel to it he has undertaken the development of design+art+ technology and in the creation of installations, works, techniques, that will permit new possibilities for the integration of art and technology and confront the reality of "Man&art-Machine&art-interface&art".He has been involved with art+design +technology, in both theory and practice. Coming from a background of the fine arts he likes to mix the "classical medium of art" with the "uptodate-non classical media", joining hight technology; thereby bringing it to his personal method, which he defines as "Franz's Uptodates".In the present Franz Fischnaller is the art-director and project-coordinator of F.A.B.R.I.CATORS, an interdiciplinary group concerned with the integration of technology+ communication+art+design. The group carries out research activities in the artistic and technological fields. Fischnaller+F.A.B.R.I.CATORS have produced some of the most recent installations in collaboration with various institutions. Including EVL (Electronic Visualisation Lab) Illinois University at Chicago, USA; Centro Enrico Piaggio, University of Pisa (Italy); Laboratoy Eidomatica-University of Milan; Gruppo Gema (ecology and technology-Amazonas) & others Among other places his work has been exhibited in Siggraph 95, 96, 97,99 (USA), Imagina'95,'98, 200; Robotix '97,(UK); ArtFutura Spain'96,97; Salon B.it Torino; Isea 97; Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnica "Leonardo da Vinci" Milan/Italy; Ontario Science Center, Canada; Mediartech- Florence/Italy, and Art-galleries in Europe and USA.

· 1995-1996 Artist in residence in ZKM Medienmuseum, Karlsruhe, Germany.

Where he concluded the prototype of the Multi Mega Book (multimedia version).

· 1996-1997 Artist in residence in EVL , Illinois University, USA, where he developed the first part of the Multi Mega Book in the Cave ( Virtual Reality Version).

· 1997 Artist in residence in AEC, Ars Electronica, Linz (Future Museum) Austria, where he concluded and adapated the Multi Mega Book in the Cave for Cave-Linz.

In 1997 Fischnaller received the Multimedia Grand Prix (Japan) for the Multi Mega Book in the Cave.

· In 1997 Fischnaller received a Mention Prize for Interactive Art for Lautrive Chromagnon Medusa.

· 1998 Member of the jury of Milia '99, France.

· 1998 Member of the jury for the web prize of the RAI (national Italian television).

· In 1999 Fischnaller received a Mention Prize for Interactive Art for

1 - Art Director and Project Coordinator of Fabricators

F.A.B.R.I.CATORS is an interdiciplinary group concerned with the integration of technology+communication+art+design. The group carries out research activities in the artistic and technological field. One of the basic aims of the group is to devise contemporary ways of creation and of communication, development of methods to combine and use art and technology in the design and production of projects, interactive art pieces, multimedial projects, VR- installations, creative interfaces, worked out on the basis of the integration of multidisciplinary expressions and disciplines, such as: art, science, culture, technology, architecture and design.

2 - Director and Curator of "Virtuality and Interactiviy"

The International Exhibit of Multi Media Art and Applied research of Mediartech (Digital Renaissance). Mediartech is a yearly international multimedia show dedicated to cultural heritage, the arts and performing arts. Promoted by the region of Tuscany/Italy and organized by the Tuscany Hi Tech Network.

3 - Professor of the Università degli Studi di Firenze (University of Florence, Italy).

He teaches in the Master of Multimedia of Florence (Italy).

4 - Designer and Project Coordinator of the new Interactive art center of

Cordoba-Spain. CICOV

(Centro Interactivo Cordoba Virtual). Is an innovative center of a multidimensional and interdisciplinary character in which culture, history, architecture, communication and technology are integrated into a common objective. Which is in process of production. Articulate of 5 floors with more than 18 interactive installations+theatre, conferences rooms, commercial area, multimedia libraries, exhibit areas etc.
